The town of Kyle certainly made history in 1937 when Mary Kyle Hartson, a great-grandmother, was elected mayor. She was seventy-two years old, and became famous nationwide as newspapers and magazines carried her picture. The second child of Captain Fergus Kyle and Anna Elizabeth Kyle, she was born in 1865. In 1891 she married George Door Hartson. They lived in Dallas, Laredo and Avino, Mexico. Mr. Hartson was an Electrical Supervisor with a mining syndicate in Mexico when he met his death. Mrs. Hartson returned to Kyle with his body and their two children, Louie Kyle and Alline. Another daughter was born after his death, but died during the flu epidemic in 1920.

After Mrs. Hartson returned to her home town, named for her father, she served as postmistress from 1902–1923. In 1937, while she was out of town, the citizens elected her mayor as a write-in candidate. During her term of office a municipal water system was built, the fire department was updated and the town was clean. She set a good example in cleanliness and the city hall yard was beautiful.

Whirlpool Operation

Whirlpool jet button

Fill the tub more than halfway to use the whirlpool jets. Once jets are submerged, press the circular button (pictured above) to activate — press once for full jets, twice to slow them, a third time to deactivate. Jets deactivate automatically if water gets too low. Please don’t peel the waterproofing plastic off the button’s face.

Air Conditioning Unit Operation

The A/C unit in your room is connected to another room in this building. It’s controlled via remote, which is kept in the front office to prevent multiple users altering the A/C at once and seizing up the system. We set the building temperature between 68–72 degrees depending on the season. Two heaters are available if needed (one for the bathroom, one for the general room space). If you need the A/C temperature adjusted, please contact the front desk.

TV & Remote

Press “Menu” to navigate the Dish Network menu, search channels, and access the guide. Press the power button at the top to turn all devices off. If you have any problems, contact the front desk for assistance.
